Are you on board with the latest CBD craze? I am!
And if you are wondering what is the benefit of CBD oil, you should focus on how does CBD oil work in the body and why scientists are raving about it.
In my local health food store, there are CBD-infused green shakes, CBD-based skin-care products, lotions, soaps, sprays and tinctures, gel caps for water and chewing gum. Did I forget anything?
How about vape pens and CBD anti-pain creams? CBD coffee and sweets?
Well, CBD oil is everywhere, and I am a part of this health and wellness phenomenon!
If not, don’t just jump in. First, get some basic knowledge and educate yourself.
It is precisely my goal of writing this post. And since I have been on CBD train for a while, I would love to be your go-to person. My focus is education and creating the relevant content in a simple format.
Today I will put in the spotlight the health benefits of this miracle compound, some basics and, of course, my experience.
So, what should you know about CBD oil?
It’s time to let the secrets out!
1. What Is Hemp-Derived CBD Oil?
When writing this article, I asked a few people on the streets of New York City, “What is CBD?”
The best answer was, “Something in connection with marijuana, and it might be good.”
It became evident that it’s time for CBD 101!
Let’s separate facts from fiction.
So, what is CBD, CBD oil, and what does hemp have to do with this?
Have you ever heard about cannabinoid?
It is a chemical compound derived from cannabis plants – marijuana and hemp. CBD—or cannabidiol—is one of 104 cannabinoids. First, it was extracted from hemp in 1940. There are other forms of cannabis. (1)
CBD source is plant leaves, resin or flowers. One of the best cannabidiol is from high-resin plants with powerful terpenes.
We will focus on hemp-derived CBD, and CBD oil.
CBD Oil – From Plant to Shelf
There are three mandatory components to isolate oil from the plant: carbon dioxide, high pressure, and low temperature.
CBD oil primarily extracted from flowers. Don’t confuse it with hemp oil which comes from seeds as a result of using cold-pressed process.
You should know that sources and cultivation methods of CBD can make a tremendous difference.
It is an opinion of a lot of industry experts that in the USA we have the best quality sources of CBD because of high standards of hemp production, stricter laws and tough requirements for certification. (2)
Another fact: the type of CBD oil called “full-spectrum” might give you the most benefits. What is “full-spectrum?”
It is when CBD oil has other cannabinoids.
In summary: to answer the question of what is the benefit of CBD oil, we focus on hemp-derived CBD oil with minimal or no THC.
2. Is Hemp Legal In the United States?
Why do we focus on hemp-derived CBD oil?
Because it’s legal!
You, as a potential user, should know a few things about the “legal” aspect of the CBD.
It became a prohibited substance after 1937 the Marijuana Tax Act. Somehow hemp and marijuana—another cannabis—were thrown behind the same fence.
Do you know, for example, that both President George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were the hemp growers?
Well, now the hemp—which being around for thousands of years and was famous as a miracle crop—is finally legal. But there is a caveat!
To be “legal,” CBD oil should have less than 0.3% THC—tetrahydrocannabinol, which is another cannabinoid. (3) The trick is that THC is a psychoactive compound and known for making a person intoxicated.
But don’t worry – opposite to THC, cannabidiol is not psychoactive. CBD is safe and will NOT make you high! (4)
CBD oil with other cannabinoids is called “full-spectrum.” There is also CBD oil without any THC.
As researched by the firm Brightfield Group, the legal market for CBD could jump to $20 billion by 2022. (5)
We all should be cautious and skeptical about unsubstantiated production or medical claims, especially regarding “curing” the disease. (6)
3. How Does CBD Oil Work in the Body?
Let’s look in a nutshell how your brain operates and “controls” you, and what role CBD might play in the process.
You will be curious to know that when you are hungry, feel pain or need to remember your corporate presentation – these are physiological processes. They work because your body has the endocannabinoid system–ECS. It’s main function is to assure “biological harmony in response to changes in the environment.”
A part of that system is so-called “cannabinoid receptors” which are everywhere in the body. These receptors are small proteins attached to your cells. What do they do? (7)
They receive chemical signals and help your cells to communicate.
Next, your body produces endocannabinoids. They are chemical compounds binding to cannabinoid receptors. Those endocannabinoids are neurotransmitters . And it is how different signals are released in the brain. (8)
What’s the point of the story?
CBD has the potential to affect endocannabinoid receptors by mimicking human endocannabinoid. Result?
They “communicate” with signaling molecules and might alter their activity. And if so, you might have relief from numerous problems like pain, inflammation, and anxiety.
But wait. There is more!
4. CBD Oil For Your Skin
Are you paying attention to your skin? I have great news for you.
That endocannabinoid system we just talked about, exist in your skin as well. It controls various biological processes. (9)
Why is it important?
Because it regulates immune response and skin inflammation. (10)
When I use CBD for my skin, it’s a small molecule with ease can bind with skin cannabinoid receptors. Result?
You don’t have to be rocket science to conclude that this “binding” might positively affect how your skin “behave” and how it looks.
And a little secret for anyone over 45 years old: it might affect the growth of new skin cells, and this is about slow aging.
So, are you excited?
And not only because I am using CBD oil and see results. I am also educating myself about CBD and how I can benefit from it.
Remember: we are on the quest for holistic treatments. And it is a long way to go!
5. Hemp and CBD Oil Health Benefits
Keep in mind that the healing power of hemp was known for thousands of years. However, we only have anecdotal evidence that plant can impact health and wellness.
CBD is not only about one specific organ in the body. The genius of cannabidiol is that it helps to coordinate how the entire body works when all organs and systems are in tune.
Another reason why CBD products might be so beneficial?
High-quality cannabinoids have synergy between different chemical compounds in the plant. In turn, it might strengthen their therapeutic effect.
What is it?
I don’t want to step on the toe of conventional medicine, but CBD might have benefits in many areas (11):
- immune system and activity of free radicals
- pain management and chronic pain relief
- neurological disorders
- rheumatoid arthritis
- multiple sclerosis
- anxiety and depression
- circulatory system and high blood pressure
The great thing is that for some conditions, cannabinoids might have a healing effect on symptoms and underlying neurological damage.
Again, research and official cannabis science are in its infancy, but for a lot of us, CBD might be today a real miracle plant and a nature godsend.
CBD is part of my daily wellness protocol, and I am glad I am doing this. I am brave, calm, and not scared.
Do you want to know why?
6. CBD Oil as Anti Inflammatory
When I got cancer, I had two questions in my head: “Why?” and “Why me?”
I was struggling with this for a long time until I met one smart doctor who told me a lot about inflammation—short-term and systematic or chronic.
When I realized that chronic inflammation is a cause for so many medical conditions, it was like a light-bulb moment for me!
Do you know, for example, that when you have an inflammation, it triggers the increase of harmful free radicals?
A long-lasting situation can cause enormous damage.
Well, antioxidants are to the rescue! They supposed to protect us from oxidative stress (medical term).
It is evident that we must kick off many antioxidants. Right?
Well, here comes the good news!
CBD—or cannabidiol—is considered to have a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect. And because of its antioxidant potential, it can decrease the inflammation and its devastating impact of your cells. (12)
And even if this effect is modest, next time someone tells you about CBD, please listen.
So, if you are looking for easing up that inflammation, you might be on the right path.
For me, it’s personal and about neuropathic pain. Keep reading.
7. CBD Oil and Neuropathy. Say “Hello” to My Toe!
Sleeping like a baby?
It’s unbearable when my toe could be “locked” at 90-degree angle right in the middle of the night.
Sometimes I screamed in my sleep before I was fully awake from the pain. The only one thing I could do was to wait for spasm goes away.
And this was how everything started. It was my burning desire to find a natural remedy to ease up the neuropathy – the malfunctions of peripheral nerves after chemotherapy.
I tried everything-carbonated water, taking magnesium, different creams, and nothing worked.
Well, I decided to apply the CBD topically.
I am glad to report that so far, it’s working, and I have STOPPED(!) waking up from the pain.
I don’t have to tell you how interrupted sleep can negatively affect the quality of life. Now I sleep my 7 – 8 hours and wake up restful!
I will continue monitoring my progress to see if it will be a long-lasting effect. Of course, you cannot expect the result immediately.
Why does it help?
As we discussed, CBD can “interfere” with the way how our brain deals with pain signals and ease up the neuropathic pain. (13)
If cannabidiol can relief pain and ease-up discomfort from neuropathy, imagine how revolutionary this remedy might be for so many people! Anyone who have ever experienced muscle spasm or tightness know what the hell it is.
As of today, there is limited research confirming that CBD oil can help people with neuropathy. Scientists should work very hard to make this wonder plant not only as a promise but a reality for many who badly need it.
But guess what?
My sound sleep is good enough evidence for me.
Miracle Crop – Give It a Chance!
Hemp was a wonder crop to our ancestors. But it had it’s “dark” side when the plant was prohibited.
Aren’t we lucky that it is back into the spotlight?
My goal is to find the natural ways to detox, relieve some common conditions—in my case side effects after chemotherapy—and stay healthy. That’s why I am writing this post, and that’s why Detox Generation exists.
Is CBD oil one of them? I certainly hope so.
But hope is not enough, and I will continue spreading the word!
I strongly believe in the healing power of cannabis and particularly CBD oil, which might help with the full range of physical and mental discomfort. But it’s not only a belief – I use CBD oil daily.
Will CBD oil be a holy grail for some people?
Maybe. Time will tell, and I hope I will be one of them!
What about YOU?
I guess I have answered the question about what is the benefit of CBD oil, haven’t I?
Happy CBD Time!
I invite you to enlighten us with your thoughts. Leave them below.
